This is a handmade Medicine Buddha statue, made of resin and standing approximately 14 cm tall. The dye used in the statue was created by our master sculptor, who specializes in creating different forms of Buddha. His work is highly intricate and respected by many. The Medicine Buddha sits on a lotus platform, holding a vase in his left hand and meditating serenely. The fine details of the statue add to its beauty.
The Medicine Buddha is also known as the Bhaisajya Tathagatta or Healing Buddha. He has the power to heal sickness and suffering caused by birth and death. His body is as clear as lapis lazuli, and he resides in the Eastern Pure Land of lapis lazuli. He is assisted by two Bodhisattvas named Suryaprabha and Candrapraha, who transform and teach living beings in that land. According to the Bhaisajyaguru Buddha Sutra, he made twelve great vows before attaining Buddhahood. They are: to eliminate sickness of all living beings and make them feel at ease and happy; to attain Buddhahood and liberate beings from disasters and calamities. According to the Tibetan medical tradition, the Bhaisajya Buddha is the source of all medical treaties. This Buddha is invoked for the removal of disasters and sickness.
